Phakic. The additional lens

So-called phakic lenses are additional artificial lenses, which are usually implanted in the anterior chamber of the eye. That is the body's lens remains in place and a further focus between objects near and far (accommodation) is easily possible.

This modern method of correction is used increasingly for higher refractive errors and combines high personal standards with very good visual results. Phakic lenses offer maximum freedom of movement, are invisible, comfortable and in contrast to other refractive procedures at any time reversible.

The fundamental requirement for such an implantation comprehensive preliminary investigations, which are to ensure the availability, for example, an adequate anterior chamber depth, and a sufficiently high number of endothelial cells of the cornea. Those cells are significantly important to the maintenance of the safety system of the cornea. Thus the measurement at the Eye Clinic Spree is also conducted during the follow-up regularly.

The outpatient surgery takes about 20 to 30 minutes and the phakic lens is fixed by a minimum access of 2.0 to 2.5 mm from the iris. Because of the minimally invasive procedure, there is a rapid wound healing and rapid setting of stable vision. The excellent material properties allow the lens for decades to keep in mind. With advanced presbyopia should be counseled about explantation of anterior chamber lens and a refractive lens exchange with your surgeon.

Implantation of phakic lenses is mainly used in patients who have never been due to high refractive error or corneal inflammation for a laser treatment in question.
